Editorial Standards

We are an independent editorial resource. Our content is researched, sourced, reviewed, and corrected when we get it wrong. This page sets out the standards we hold ourselves to — published in full, with no fine print.

We publish independent, data-backed content about Mercedes engines. We are not a garage, not a dealership, and not affiliated with Mercedes-Benz AG. Our editorial standards are designed to ensure accuracy, transparency, and accountability.

Full standards, author policy, and our conflict-of-interest position, below.

Editorial Independence

We are an independent editorial resource. No specialist, supplier, or advertiser directs our content.

Mercedes Engines UK is part of the Engine Finders network, a group of independent editorial sites that share a common data pool and a common standard for specialist vetting. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage, and we do not write content designed to generate maximum enquiries. We publish what the data and expert knowledge show — even when that means telling a reader to scrap their Mercedes rather than replace the engine.

Our commercial model is fully disclosed on our how it works page: specialists pay us for enquiries, but they have no influence over our verdicts. Our repair-or-replace framework uses the 70% scrap threshold — and we apply it consistently across every cost guide and verdict page, regardless of whether the answer sends a reader away from the network.

Sourcing & Verification

Every number on this site carries a tag — [EM-VERIFIED], [EM-QUOTE], [EM-INTERVIEW], [THIRD-PARTY] or [PATTERN DATA] — so you can assess its provenance.

Our primary data source is 24,650 real UK enquiries [EM-VERIFIED] from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, full year 2025. This gives us exact counts for engine request volumes, model popularity, and condition splits. We supplement this with direct specialist interviews, post-sale surveys, and third-party sources such as AutoTrader and manufacturer TSBs.

We never invent a figure. If a claim cannot be sourced, we either mark it [PATTERN DATA] with a clear explanation, or we omit it. Our data verification page sets out the full methodology, sample size, and period. All sourcing decisions are recorded, and our corrections log documents any revisions.

Corrections & Updates

When we get something wrong, we correct it — promptly, transparently, and with a permanent record.

We define a substantive correction as any change that alters a factual claim — a price, a model year, a failure pattern, a specification, or a data tag. Typographical errors and formatting adjustments are not logged unless they affect meaning.

When a correction is made, the affected page carries a visible note (typically in the summary box or near the corrected data) stating the nature of the change and the date. The corrections log provides the full context, including the original error, the corrected version, and the reason for the change. We aim to respond to any reported error within 48 hours, and to complete verification within five working days.

We also update content when new data becomes available. These are logged as "updates" rather than corrections, but they are recorded in the same log.

Author Policy

All content is written by experienced automotive journalists and researchers — not by AI, not by automated tools, and not by marketing copywriters.

Our authors have backgrounds in automotive engineering, journalism, or independent workshop practice. They are required to attribute every factual claim to a source and to use data tags consistently. Every article is reviewed by an editor before publication, and technical content is additionally reviewed by our expert panel of practising Mercedes specialists.

We do not use AI to generate content. We may use AI for editorial assistance — such as transcription, summarisation, or research organisation — but every sentence is written and reviewed by a human author. We never publish AI-generated content without human verification.

Author names and credentials are published on each article, and we maintain a panel page that sets out who reviews what and what their qualifications are.

Editorial Review Process

Every piece of content goes through a structured review before publication — and is reviewed again if updated.

The review process has three stages:

We also conduct periodic reviews of existing content to ensure it remains accurate as new data becomes available. The dateModified in our schema markup reflects the last review date.

Conflict of Interest Policy

Our commercial model is transparent, and we have clear rules to prevent it from influencing our editorial content.

We are paid by specialists for the enquiries we send them. We do not take commissions on work, and we do not accept fees for favourable coverage. Our editorial team is separate from our commercial operations, and specialists have no input into what we publish — including whether we recommend replacing or scrapping a vehicle.

We publish our warranty standards and vetting criteria in full, including the automatic disqualifiers that remove a supplier from our network. A specialist who fails to meet our standards is removed, regardless of the commercial impact to us. We have never reinstated a specialist after a disqualifying removal.

Our verified owner outcomes page publishes aggregated follow-up data from owners who used the network — another layer of accountability.
