Every number on this site carries a tag so you know where it came from — [EM-VERIFIED], [EM-QUOTE], [EM-INTERVIEW], [THIRD-PARTY], [PATTERN DATA] or [PLACEHOLDER]. This page sets out exactly what each tag means and how we verify the data.
Every number on this site is tagged so you can assess its provenance. We don't present estimates as facts. Our [EM-VERIFIED] figures come from 24,650 real UK enquiries — quote requests, supplier responses, and post-sale follow-ups.
[EM-VERIFIED] from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, full year 2025Tag definitions, verification process, and how we handle data updates, below.
Every number on this site carries exactly one of these tags. You should never see an untagged figure.
| Tag | Meaning | Source |
|---|---|---|
[EM-VERIFIED] |
Exact count or percentage from our internal CRM — enquiry volumes, model requests, condition split | 24,650 quote requests, Jan–Dec 2025 |
[EM-QUOTE] |
Pricing ranges derived from actual supplier quotes sent through our CRM, cross-checked with marketplaces | Supplier quotes + interviews |
[EM-SURVEY] |
Post-sale customer survey results — satisfaction rates, outcome data | 100+ surveys 3–6 months after replacement |
[EM-INTERVIEW] |
Direct statements from mechanics, workshop owners, or supplier managers | Hundreds of conversations, 2024–2025 |
[THIRD-PARTY] |
External data — AutoTrader, Parkers, manufacturer TSBs, etc. | Named source + date |
[PATTERN DATA] |
Documented expert-knowledge-tier claim — no proprietary volume behind it, but widely observed | Workshop consensus / market observation |
We also use [PLACEHOLDER — confirm vs cost sheet] for figures that need sourcing before publish — these do not appear on live pages. Our full methodology page sets out sample size, period, inclusion criteria, and how we handle outliers.
We draw on three primary sources of data, each with a distinct purpose and verification method.
1. Proprietary enquiry data ([EM-VERIFIED])
This is our core asset. 24,650 unique quote requests from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, full year 2025. It includes engine and model request volumes, condition splits (reconditioned vs used), and enquiry trends. Every count in this data is exact — we never approximate.
2. Supplier and mechanic interviews ([EM-QUOTE], [EM-INTERVIEW], [EM-SURVEY])
We speak directly with specialists who quote and rebuild these engines every day. This gives us pricing ranges, labour hours, and repair patterns that aren't visible in enquiry data alone. Post-sale surveys (100+ customers, 3–6 months after replacement) provide outcome data.
3. Third-party public data ([THIRD-PARTY])
Where we need market context — vehicle values, manufacturer technical bulletins, official specifications — we cite named, dated external sources such as AutoTrader, Parkers, and manufacturer TSBs.
All three are cross-referenced before publication. If the data doesn't agree, we investigate further before making a claim.
A number is not published until it has passed three checks.
Check 1 — Internal consistency: Does the number match the source data? A claim about OM651 request volume must match the exact figure in our CRM. If it doesn't, we don't publish it.
Check 2 — Cross-reference: For [EM-QUOTE] figures, we cross-check with supplier interviews and marketplace data. A price range is not published unless it's corroborated by at least two independent sources.
Check 3 — Editorial review: Every number is reviewed by a second editor before publication. This person checks the tag, verifies the source, and ensures the claim is appropriately contextualised.
If we cannot verify a figure, it does not appear on the site. Our corrections log records any instances where a figure was revised after publication.
Data changes over time. We update our content when new data becomes available.
Our core enquiry data is refreshed annually. Pricing figures are reviewed quarterly, using recent supplier quotes and marketplace checks. When we update a figure, we log the change in our corrections log as an "update" rather than a "correction" — the change is still recorded, but it reflects new data rather than an error.
We also monitor external data sources — manufacturer TSBs, vehicle value databases — and update our content accordingly. Any page that makes a data claim carries a dateModified in its schema markup so search engines and readers can see when it was last reviewed.
Our annual failure index is updated each year with the latest data, and we note the period covered in the methodology.
Honesty about limitations is as important as confidence in verified data.
Request volume ≠ failure rate. High enquiry numbers may reflect large vehicle parc or audience bias, not engineering quality. We never claim "Engine A is less reliable than Engine B because it has more quotes." Instead, we state the volume fact and use the failure pattern table to support engineering claims.
Pricing ranges are indicative, not guaranteed. We publish ranges from real supplier quotes, but actual costs vary by region, condition, and specialist. We recommend obtaining a specific quote before committing.
We don't invent data. If a claim cannot be substantiated with a tag, we either use [PATTERN DATA] with a clear disclaimer, or we omit the claim. We never present an estimate as a verified number.
Our methodology page and editorial standards set out our approach in full, including how we handle conflicting sources and what we do when data is unavailable.
It means the figure is an exact count or percentage from our internal CRM — 24,650 unique quote requests from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, full year 2025.
Pricing figures are cross-checked against supplier quotes, marketplace data, and specialist interviews. A price range is only published if it is corroborated by at least two independent sources.
Some claims — such as common failure patterns or typical mileage ranges — are widely documented in the trade but not captured in our proprietary data. These are marked [PATTERN DATA] so you know they are expert-observed rather than precisely measured.
Enquiry data is refreshed annually. Pricing is reviewed quarterly. All updates are noted in our corrections log.
Our methodology page sets out sample size, period, inclusion criteria, and how we handle outliers. While we don't publish the raw CRM data for commercial and privacy reasons, we publish the key aggregated figures on our data pages.
