Source: Internal CRM quote-request data from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, combined. Full calendar year 2025. 24,650 unique quote requests across all brands; 5,920 relate specifically to Mercedes-Benz. Lifespan estimates are derived from mileage-at-enquiry data, supplier notes on typical failure mileage, and cross-referenced with UK MOT history for a subset of vehicles where full mileage records were available.
What we mean by "lifespan": the mileage at which an engine is first reported as needing a major repair or replacement (excluding routine servicing items like belts, filters, or consumables). This is not a mean time to failure in the engineering sense – it is the observed point at which owners contact us for a replacement, which is the most practical measure for decision-making.
Limitations: our dataset over-represents engines that have already failed (by definition). To avoid survivorship bias, we pair enquiry data with MOT mileage histories for a control sample of vehicles that have not been reported to us. This gives a more balanced view of typical lifespan across the whole parc, not just the failures.
